5 Benefits of Apprenticeships for your Business

5 Reasons Why Hiring an Apprentice Could be Good for Your Business

If you’re an SME (small and medium-sized enterprise), Apprenticeships could be an effective way to find and grow new talent. Apprenticeships are now one of the main focus points of the Government to get people into work and up-skill existing staff. The existence of Apprenticeships came about in the construction and engineering industries, but they have since been diversified are now available in all major job roles and are becoming increasingly popular. Some of the courses that are available now are business, customer service, digital marketing, tech, and fitness.

One of the misconceptions that we hear a lot regarding Apprenticeships is that they are only for school-leavers, while this is the case quite often, we do regularly interview and train candidates that are 18+ and have chosen the apprenticeship route to enhance their career.

So, with this in mind, we’ve put together 5 reasons why hiring an apprentice could be great for your business

1. Apprenticeships are Government funded

If you’re an SME and don’t pay into a levy, the government will share the cost of the apprenticeship training. This means you can hire additional employees, have them trained in a specific role, and have the Government pay the majority of their training. But do remember, as an employer, it is still your duty to pay the salary and other associated costs of the apprentice.

2. Incentive payments for hiring an Apprentice

To support businesses, the government is offering incentive payments to employers that hire an apprentice between 1st August 2020 and 31st March 2021. If the apprentice is aged between 16-18, you’ll get £3,000 or if aged between 19 – 24 you would get £2,000, and alternatively, if the Apprentice is aged 25+ you get £1,500. Find out more here:

3. Talent unique to your business

Finding people with the right skills to match your business can sometimes be a challenge. You want someone that understands the role and is able to do their job effectively. The benefit of hiring someone looking for an Apprenticeship is the mindset and attitude they have towards wanting to work and learn. They are willing to do what it takes to learn the job and work closely with their Apprenticeship provider to ensure they are developing the right skills, behaviors, and qualifications to be successful in the role.

4. Save the cost of recruitment and reduce staff turnover

If you’ve been put off hiring new talent due to the cost and hassle of recruiting, then an apprenticeship might be another option to look at. Velocity does not charge for the apprenticeship recruitment or the enrolment of your staff. We’ll find you the suitable candidates to interview and then it’s your choice to hire the person that best fits your business.
